Searching the Yavapai County jail roster

Does the portal accept a booking number? Yes — the YCSO Inmate Search form accepts last name, first name, and booking number as separate search fields. A booking number is assigned at intake and printed on the arrest paperwork given to the person booked; it may also appear on a bail bond or court notice. Searching by booking number returns a single record and avoids name-match confusion.

To search by name:

1. Go to YCSO Inmate Search.
2. Enter the last name in the Last Name field. First name is optional but narrows results.
3. Submit the form. Results show current custody status, facility location, and charge information for each matching record.
4. If no result appears, note the time — new bookings may not yet be visible. See the next section for timing details.

Yavapai County operates two main detention facilities: the Eastern Detention Bureau in the Verde Valley area, reachable at (928) 771-3260, and the main Prescott-area facility. Both feed into the same online roster. Confirm numbers and hours before visiting or calling.

What the roster does (and doesn’t) show

Booking lag is the most common reason a name doesn’t appear right away. After an arrest in Yavapai County, the person must be transported to a detention facility, processed through intake, and entered into the system before the record becomes searchable. That sequence takes time, and the online roster reflects it — a booking that happened an hour ago may not yet be visible.

It’s a long night, and the phone is the fastest path to a real answer right now. Jails process bookings at all hours, so a call placed now can reach staff who handle custody questions after business hours, though staffing levels vary and you may need to try more than once.

Bond is set at first appearance, which typically happens within 24 to 72 hours of booking depending on the charge and court schedule. Calling tonight confirms whether the person is in custody and which facility; it won’t give you a bond amount yet, because that hasn’t been set. That part is the hard part — waiting for the court process to move. Ask the detention staff which court will handle the first appearance and when it’s likely to be scheduled.

Visitation is not available the night of booking. That’s normal and expected. Visiting hours begin once the person is processed and assigned to a housing unit, which typically happens the following day. Call the facility in the morning to ask about current visitation scheduling for the unit where they’re housed.

Why might a name not appear on the Yavapai County roster right away?

Booking lag is the most common explanation — intake processing takes time, and a recent arrest may simply not have propagated to the public search yet. But if enough time has passed and the name still doesn’t appear, the person may be held or tracked through a different system entirely.

• Released: The roster shows current detainees only. A person who posted bond or was released on recognizance will no longer appear.
